Helmutas ŠABASEVIČIUS

Born in 1964 in Ežerėlis (Kaunas district). 1982–1989 studied art history in Lithuanian State Institute of Art (now – Vilnius Academy of Arts). Since 1989 worked at the Institute of History, later at the Institute of Culture and Art. In 1993, he defended his doctoral thesis in the field of art history and got a degree of Doctor of Humanities. Since 2002 – senior researcher at the Culture, Philosophy and Art Institute (since 2010 – Lithuanian Culture Research Institute). Since 1993 has been teaching art at Vilnius Academy of Art, also since 2008 – at the Lithuanian Music and Theatre Academy, since 2020 – a associate professor. Since 1995, the editor-in-chief of the art and culture magazine “Krantai”.

Member of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA), the Lithuanian Society of Art Historians (LDID), of the Performing Arts Critics Association.

Fields of scientific interests: the history of Lithuanian ballet, the history of Lithuanian stage design, connections of visual art and theatre.
