The ninth volume of the periodical peer-reviewed scientific publication Meno istorijos studijos / Studies of Art History by the Lithuanian Culture Research Institute (compiled by Giedrė Jankevičiūtė) is devoted to the Uncomfortable Heritage. This concept, which is well established in the context of memory studies, encompasses a wide range of phenomena. In this case, it is localised in the field of art history. The themes of the authors of the volume include: deconstruction of national art canons, discovery of marginalised artists, artistic phenomena and processes that have not been studied for one reason or another, publicising silenced facts and revising established opinions, disputes over "our" and "not our" heritage, and the battles over monuments that engage and inflame the public. The chronology of the phenomena under discussion focuses on the 20th and 21st centuries and the topography covers countries and continents from Lithuania to North Africa and South America. The articles are published in English and summaries are presented in Lithuanian.
