The project aims to research the activities and writings of Wincenty Ignacy Marewicz (1755–1822). The research is carried out as a case study in order to reflect through the life and works of a particular author the political, social and cultural processes of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania during the Enlightenment period. Born in Trakai County, he studied in Vilnius and later spent a significant part of his life in this city, though the writer is still completely unknown in the history of Lithuanian literature and culture. Marewicz use to live in Vilnius at a turning point in history: when the Four-Year Sejm took place, the Constitution of May 3 1791 was adopted, when the war with Russia broke out and the Kosciuszko Uprising, followed by the last partition of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth took place. At that time, an intensive attempt to reform the State were made, new public institutes were formed, the attitudes towards estates, position of women, education, and the role of the artist in the life of the State has been changing significantly. Marewicz was an active participant in all political events and a passionate social critic as well as the supporter of the reforms. A unique personality that transcends the boundaries of the social conventions and an extraordinary abundance of his writings has determined Marewicz' reputation among contemporaries as a graphomaniac writer, but for a modern researcher, the works of this author are interesting primarily for the reflections on his lifetime. In the proposed research, Marewicz and his writings are treated as a peculiar and unique source, in which the political and social constructions of the epoch and the communal values of the period are recorded. This research intends to examine Marewicz' textual and visual works and activities in several aspects: 1) reflections on political life; 2) society criticism; 3) educational projects; 4) the identity of the nobility, the artist, the ‘little man’.
Results: paper at an international conference, published scientific article, monographic study will be published. Project dissemination activities: an exhibition at The Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, a public lecture and a virtual exhibition, dedicated to Marewicz's work
