Development of doctoral studies 2

The object of the research of the doctoral dissertation is the photo art of the Baltic countries in the contexts of the latest development of visual culture, socio-cultural and technological life. The goal is an intermedial analysis of photography of the last decades, focusing on the photo art of the Baltic countries in the wider context of changing media and socio-cultural life conditions. The main tasks are to form new conceptual tools and a field of knowledge necessary for a deeper understanding of current metaphotography, extended photographic practice and photo art; to reveal the multimedianess, transmediality (references to other media), intermedial dialogues (relationship with other areas of creativity and communication) of contemporary photography; to analyze the fluidity, non-referentiality and networking of photographic images, where the global logic of links and connections prevails; to explore new processes of communication and meaning "production" of photographic images, which are stimulated by the abundance of visual material and the changing ways of its consumption and reception; to explore the current photographic reflections - layers of meanings that promote the perception of techno-society, new points of worldview, awareness, a critical look at current socio-cultural processes and technological development. The interdisciplinary intermedial study of the new photography paradigm integrates the knowledge of art history and criticism, philosophy, communication, cultural anthropology and other branches, revealing the specificity and functioning of the photo art of the Baltic countries in a networked cultural field, which is connected not only by common hardware and software interfaces, but also by relevant semantic references (to mass communication, economy, politics, law, social and cultural life).
